Meth and Red were no strangers to collaborating on tracks, so when fans of the funny pair found out they had dropped an entire project, they reacted accordingly. The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, moving 254,000 copies in the first week and was praised by critics for their oddball comedy and rhythmic chemistry. The album came to be known as a landmark project for East Coast rap.
In some respects, the LP served as a prelude to Meth and Red's hilarious 2001 stoner film How High. Many of the tracks from the LP were featured in the Danny DeVito-produced, Jesse Dylan-directed film. The movie was a commercial success, grossing around $31 million and becoming a cinema classic for potheads and hip-hop fans alike. In 2009, the duo tried to recapture the magic with their sophomore album Blackout 2! When chopped it up with Redman in 2015, he reminisced on the heyday of their first album and film and announced that would be coming in 2017 with the album Blackout 3 serving as the soundtrack. ' How High 2 is not going to drop until at least 2017,' explained Red in the interview.
'The writers are still writing the script.'

This is a classic hip-hop record. Method Man and Redman compliment each other extremely well. They are two entertaining MCs who are good solo, but better together. The production on this CD is high-quality hip-hop and compliments their styles very well. My favorite tracks are 'Mi Casa,' 'Cereal Killer,' 'Tear It Off,' and 'Da Rockwilder.'
It's hard to believe that this release is 10 years old. Nevertheless, it stands up to the music of today, and is better then 90% of the so-called Hip-Hop floating around right now. Buy this album! Don't just download a bootleg torrent. At the very least, make a visit to iTunes and buy the songs you like, and support real hip-hop.
