The Current NYSSMA® Manual 32. Posted on July 15, 2015. NYSSMA® is a State Unit of NAfME (MENC) The National Association for Music Education. Make sure your prepared solo appears in the NEW (edition 31) NYSSMA Manual by checking with your private teacher or with the Jericho Music Department staff. Solos are graded by difficulty from Level 1 (easiest) to Level 6 (most difficult). Choose your solo carefully with the help of your music teacher.

Do you have the current NYSSMA Manual? Please read below for more information. The NYSSMA Manual is a 600+ page reference book copyrighted by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). It is updated every three years. NYSSMA Manual Edition 32, effective July 2018, ( Yellow & White colored pages), is the current edition.

Edition 32 is in effect until the end of the Spring 2021 NYSSMA Festival Season (June 2021). The NYSSMA Manual contains repertoire lists of instrumental and vocal music for solo and ensemble performance. It does not contain printed music.

Each list is broken down into six levels of difficulty. The Manual also includes all of the Rules and Regulations as well as scale and sight-reading requirements for all NYSSMA-sanctioned evaluation festivals.

The purpose of the NYSSMA Manual is for music teachers to use it as a guide in the preparation of their students for NYSSMA festivals. If you are a music teacher and intend to send your students to NYSSMA festivals, please strongly consider purchasing a NYSSMA Manual.
